I randomly came across this Formosa YAY Mochi Assortment treats while I was shopping and looking around in Costco. I looked at the box and first thing popped my mind was the mochi ice creams, but obviously this was not in the freezer, so I supposed it was some treat related to the ice creams. So, I looked at the box and thought why not give it a try, so I went ahead and placed it in the shopping cart.
These treats come in 3 flavors inside the box:
- Matcha Green Tea (okay)
- Taro (i liked)
- Adzuki Red Bean (good)
Tastes Okay when Served Cold
The one I’m ripping apart in this video is the Taro flavored one. As I tried the first piece, I new this taste should be cold, so I went ahead and placed it in the refrigerator. As I tried it out of the box, I didn’t really like the flavor that much. However, as I tried a cold piece it was pretty good, but I just liked the taro the most from the other 2.

They are pretty sweet though, every time I would eat one I noticed a little sensitive pain in my gums or teeth, maybe it’s time for a dentist. However, as this is my honest review, I did not really like it that much, but that is my taste buds so don’t judge my decision likewise to yours. I’m sure some of you will like this, but for me it wasn’t my style of treat. It was too sweet.
Unhealthy Ingredients
On top of that I’m really picky on the ingredients and this had few ingredients that I didn’t like for my health. This is not a healthy snack that I would like to consider. Anything with food color I don’t like, and yes this had food colors inside them.

Anyway, all aside I think this are good to try just to see how they taste, so if you haven’t tried it, go ahead and give it a try. As far as my review goes, I didn’t really like them, they are okay when they are served cold, but when they are room temperature they weren’t good to me.

Also, this is noting like the ice cream, if you like the ice creams don’t compare this with the ice creams. The texture is not the same, but if I ever try this again I would want to try a real one, naturally made with no chemicals.
Not my Type of Treat – But Everyone is Different
I am giving my rating of 4 out of 5 because I didn’t like the ingredients and overall, I rather eat the ice cream. And I wouldn’t want to serve something to kids or guests with chemicals inside them. But why purchase it in the first place right? Well I just wanted to try it. And this were my honest review about it.
