Leading, which has the ability to guide or direct others by showing them the way or telling them how to behave. Throughout the past leading is what leads the future through what it is now, and its still leading to a betterness of history. In both Rudolfo Anaya’s novel, Bless Me, Ultima, and the film, Whale Rider, Tony and Pai become leaders, Magical Realism helps them lead, and nature is ahead of them.

            Tony and Pai go through many statistics to show their values of the past. For instance, Tony recognizes that their have been several deaths in the novel. They also realize that the loss of an individual is part of an individual’s existence. In addition, Pakka (Koro) didn’t believe that Pai was meant to be a true leader, and he had believed that a female isn’t suppose to take the crown over a man. Pai doesn’t let Pakka’s believes stop her from her fate, and at the end she verifies her Pakka’s mind in a false opinion.

            Magical Realism is an enormous path of Tony’s and Pai’s lives. If not designed for magic the results for the novel and the film would not be as excepted as it was. For instance, Tony first realizes magic when he had been taught by Ultima about the herbs. In addition, Pai can communicate with the whales. When the whales were stuck on the sea shore, it was a huge conflict of trying to put the whales back into the water. The conflict was solved when Pai had talked to the crown of the whales, and had made the crown to back-up in the ocean; once the crown had backed-up the rest of the whales had fallowed him.

            Tony and Pai are both related to nature. For example, Tony can understand the existence of the river. Tony can understand the ability that nature is calling him and making him a talented leader. In addition, Pai is being called by the whales and understands by the silence of the whales and ocean, that nature is waiting ahead of him.

            Leading, magical realism, and nature have brought many interesting solutions to Tony’s and Pai’s lives. They both went through many stages of becoming true hearted leaders and they never turned back. Both Tony and Pai had been through disappointing acts and that didn’t prevail their heart of a crown.

so, if you guys have never read the novel, Bless Me, Ultima you can purchase the book or get it from the Library and start reading it. It is one of those books where the schools give it to the students and they are required to read. It is that of a great novel that the schools are assigned to have the students read this book. And the movie Whale Rider is one of the greatest movies I can recommend to watch. It is one of those movies where you watch and you learn from it, so it is not a pointless movie.
