“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18 NIV

What is pride anyway and what purpose is it for? Well, this Proverbs reminds of the war days thousands of years ago. When there were no weapons made of explosives, but rather handheld weapons. Weapons like arrows, knives, and swords. It reminds me of the war days because those days everything was based on pride. Soldiers went to war because of pride and people fought for their country. They did all of this battles and fights for the love that they have for their land.

As I sometimes question this to say: What’s the Purpose? I mean, why are you fighting for your country and why is your country and better than the other country? What are you getting out of fighting for land and what if you were from the opposite country? This one Proverb got me thinking to all of this war related questions and there is no answer as a whole. The answer is in the person who holds such pride and is it good or bad?

Growing Up

All of this questions I’m saying right now, don’t really matter or take effect in the correct way. Why? Because I didn’t grow up during those times and growing up during those times, we were raised differently than now. We learned differently and pride was above all one of the most passed down from parent to offspring. At those times, people thought about war and keeping their country above all with honor. Kids were raised with lessons to fight with swords. People grew up with no television, cell phones, social media, their mind was much closer than it is now. Their mind and focus was like a shield to their homeland and this above all is pride.
