I am a bit confused with this Papa John’s NY Style Pizza. Before I begin, I just want to mention that I’ve never really had a New York Pizza from New York. That said I could only accept this pizza as a NY Style Pizza, until I go to New York and try real NY Pizza. Okay, so what makes NY pizza is that it is oversized, foldable, and equal crust all around. I can’t agree with that, but that’s what Papa John’s is saying according to their NY pizza.

I really wasn’t much impressed with this pizza because I found it way too greasy and way too much pepperoni. I’m not sure if the greasiness and the high amount of pepperoni is really part of the NY style.
What separates this pizza from the rest of Papa John’s Pizzas?
- To be clear, what makes this pizza different is that it has a New York Style Crust. What this means is that it has the equal crust all around the pizza. Meaning, from the middle to the edge is all the same thickness of crust. Also, the pizza is not thick and it’s not thin either, it’s just right in-between.
- Papa John’s worker told me they use the large size dough to make it to XL size NY style crust. So, this makes it a nice balance of crust that is not thick and not thin, just perfect as NY Style.
- NY Style Pizza only comes in size XL, and it is eight slices that are foldable and large.
Overall, this didn’t really feel like a NY Pizza to me, it just felt like a basic pepperoni pizza. I’m not sure if NY pizza has any specific toppings on top, but I just got pepperoni. Too greasy for me and a bit way too much pepperoni for me. Also, I think the box it comes in should have like pictures of Statue of Liberty or New York on it. If the box was more New York decorated, it maybe would feel a bit more NY to me.
I’m used to thick pizzas, so this kind of was not my style, but I’m looking forward visiting NY to get real NY Pizza.
On top of all that pizza came with garlic sauce and pepperoncini pepper which I’m sure at NY that wouldn’t be part of the pizza. Also, to mention that I had a choice to get the pizza well done or not. This makes me a bit confused just to how well pizza will be cooked at NY. If I have to choose from Well Done or Not, then Why not Just make it the way it supposed to be made at NY? Right!
Also want to add that there was no pizza savor. Pizza savor looks like that small dish that’s in the middle of the pizza. I always had that in my mind when I thought of Pizza from NY. That saves the pizza from hitting the top of the box, because pizza is very important. 😉
