Every time I find something interesting at Costco and this time it is Dragon’s Eye Longan. I got this from Costco but just to mention Sam’s Club has it too. It is by Freshway Produce and they come in 1.5 pound bags or plastic containers which the price at Costco is $7.99. Something new to me so as being born in the year of dragon my dragon instincts just wanted some. Also, it is a product of Vietnam and let’s jump right into this fruit or should I say fly into this fruit.

Dragon’s Eye Longan will be Great in Smoothies

As this is my first time trying Longan fruit I got a sour tone of taste. Therefore, I decided to add honey which was okay too. But after eating a lot, I realized with the sour tone of taste they will just be perfect in smoothies and with a honey drizzle.

Back of the Bag:

  • “Longan, or ‘dragon’s eye’, is a sweet, grape-sized fruit similar to lychee. Just peel it, eat the white flesh, and enjoy! Great in snacks, salads, smoothies, and desserts.” – Freshway Produce

Skin

Easy to eat as all you have to do is peel the skin off and enjoy the fruit. However, they do come with black seeds so be careful to not swallow.

Gives me Cactus Pear like Flavors

Overall, I’m getting dragon fruit and cactus fruits type of flavors. In a way tastes like sour water and just delivers that taste that will fit in smoothies just fine. At the same time, it’s got this taste that you kind of need to eat and get used to. Pretty good and sour which some are sweet, but most are sour. Great price at Costco and I recommend giving it a try as it is very nutritious. Also, check out Kiwi Berries and Pineberries from Costco.
